The HAWKING partners meeting and study visit in Funchal, Madeira, was held from November 18 to 20. Besides evaluating project activities, engaging in joint discussions, and preparing for upcoming workshops in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Cyprus and Albania, we were introduced to the digital transformation in the educational process in Madeira and how Madeira’s motto “Madeira belongs to all” truly operates in reality.
On the first day, we were welcomed at the Directorate of Technology Services and Innovative Learning Environments. Our hosts were very open and generously shared information about the digital development of primary and secondary education. Children from preschool age have access to digital technologies and approach learning and acquiring new knowledge in a creative way. Internet safety and support for students are of primary importance.
Our partner from UNIC – University of Nicosia, Cyprus, used interactive presentation methods to further discuss all the possibilities for supporting students with special educational needs.
On the second day, HAWKING partners were received at the Regional Secretariat for Education, Science, and Technology, specifically in the ‘Division of Accessibility and Assistive Technology,’ which does commendable work in designing, developing, promoting, and disseminating support technologies or innovative technological experiences for children, students, or others with disabilities, impairments, or other special educational needs.
The fundamental idea is to ensure inclusion as a principle of all democratic educational institutions. A systematic approach and intersectoral cooperation are key to success.
